Performance Art Workshops

I teach performance workshops at universities, conferences, community centers, and other venues. I facilitate a dynamic learning environment where innovation and experimentation are met with inquiry and interest, and where workshop participants are creatively inspired and artistically encouraged. With an interdisciplinary approach to ideas, process, and technology, participants work with personal experience and community issues to investigate many forms of expression. Workshops include individual and group work, and weekend workshops culminate in a public performance.

Workshops Offered:
Autobiography and Performance
Queer Performance Art
Art and Activism

Duration:
Half-day, one-day, or weekend workshops

For more information about workshops and availability, contact Jess.

Tours

I’ve been taking my performances on the road since 1998, traveling to schools, festivals, theatres and community centers throughout the US and in Canada. I’ve been coast to coast with my Utopia Roaming project, and have had the juicy thrill to collaborate on Cuntfest, a tour with Inga Muscio, author of the brilliant womanifesto, Cunt, and Cristien Storm of Home Alive, a revolutionary Seattle based anti-violence organization. Performances are usually followed by a Q/A session, and combined with a separate artist’s talk and/or performance workshop. If you’d like more information or are interested in hosting, get in touch.

“Dobkin, the bubbly, creative genius behind the over-the-top, sensational 'lesbian puppet extravaganzas,' has been out as a puppeteer for nearly five years. Her campus visits become assembling points for young lesbians.”
-Frederick Kaimann, The Home News and Tribune

“A popular figure on university campuses for the manner in which she uses an assortment of imaginative props to explore themes of fantasy, sexuality and community.”
-McGill Reporter

“The energy and enthusiasm that Jess brought with her is something we look forward to again.”
University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN

“The performance was fantastic and so different and unique and creative.”
SUNY Albany

“Your performance was fabulous and the campus really enjoyed it. Anytime you want to come back to campus, just let us know. We really loved it.”
